Almost nothing brings nerds throughout New York City together like a new video game console, and the release of Sony’s long-awaited Playstation 4 (PS4) is no exception. When the clock strikes midnight, gamers will finally be able to get their hands on a technological construct that is sure to suck up countless hours of their lives with its top notch graphics and, one hopes, quality games. The new console costs a whopping $399, with games going for $60. The Playstation 4 boasts a varied array of launch titles, including first-party exclusives like Killzone: Shadowfall, Knack and Contrast, to name a few. The Playstation 4 will only have the next-gen market to itself for a week, whereupon Microsoft’s Xbox One will arrive, triggering another fanboy feeding frenzy and igniting the next round of the console wars.

For tonight, at least, the Playsation 4 gets the limelight all to itself. Sure enough, lines are already forming at Chelsea’s Best Buy location on 23rd Street and Sixth Avenue.
