Nutella is celebrating its 50th birthday. That’s right, everyone’s favorite hazelnut spread has been around for 50 years! To commemorate this milestone, parent company Ferrero U.S.A. has launched a Nutella “Spread the Happy” truck tour, set to make stops in 16 cities. Today, Monday, May 19th, the tour’s New York leg (appropriately titled “I Love New York – Spread the Happy”) set up shop at the Broadway Pedestrian Plaza, adjacent to Madison Square Park and across the street from the Flatiron Building.
Pedestrians stood on line at sampling stations and a Nutella food truck for free samples of all manner of Nutella delicacies, not to mention coupons for $1 off their next purchase. In particular, Dominique Ansel, Chef and Owner of the Soho-based Dominique Ansel Bakery and creator of the Cronut, is handing out a new, limited edition version filled with Nutella. Games and customized photo opportunities will give you the chance to share your Nutella experience on social media using the hashtag #spreadthehappy. Musician Holley Maher of the “Forever Nutella” TV advertising campaign is providing a musical backdrop for the festivities. Flatiron Hot! News was on hand to snap some photos and record some video of the event. Stay tuned for updates throughout the day!
