Let’s welcome J Gumbo to the Flatiron District’s incredibly diverse selection of eateries! The new fast-food casual restaurant opened its doors a few weeks ago on 23rd St. not far from 6th Avenue (61 West 23rd to be exact – 212-206-8501; jgumbos.com), right in the middle of the Chelsea-Flatiron area, and is offering up a heapin’ helping of such cajun favorites as Bourbon Chicken, as well as a cornucopia of original creations that defy description! Yours truly sampled some tasty dishes, and they are a step beyond anything one would expect from any ordinary fast-food eatery. The colorful new digs feature some spectacular paintings and modern art creations all done by noted artist Holly Jones that will make you do a double take (see in particular the “Cajun Taxi” piece as you walk in on the left). And how many fast-food restaurants have fancy glass chandeliers hanging from the ceilings to brighten your noon-day lunch? The new establishment is the latest creation of co-founders Billy Fox (chef) and Jason Cardwell (business side), who have opened up 40 of these remarkable restaurants across the USA. Definitely worth a look – see Flatiron Hot’s quick video peek below – and, check back here for the restaurant profile soon to come!
