The newest exhibit in the ever-fascinating Flatron Prow was revealed to viewers this week. Curator Cheryl McGinnis Projects has put forth an exceptionally appropriate concept for this site right by Madison Square Park and the modernist “Fata Morgana” exhibit. Consisting of trees and arboreal-inspired stainless steel welded sculptures, with solar-powered lighting and decoration, it makes us think about the merging of nature and technology in the so-called “Silicon Alley” neighborhood. Scheduled for display through July 2015, the tree sculptures by artist-welder Josh Hadar (see www.hadarmetaldesign.com) features, among other creations, a photovoltaic acacia tree as part of a set of different pieces, entitled “Urban Jungle.” This one certainly requires multiple views from multiple angles to get an appreciation of the artist’s concept, and strolls past the Flatiron Prow for the next three months will certainly provide area fans of sculpture every opportunity to do so!
