During Restaurant Week, which ends August 14th, I went to Raymi to try Peruvian food for the first time. Located less than a block away from the NYCSCC office at 43 West 24th Street, Raymi just seemed like a small, hidden building from the outside. However, once I opened the big white doors, I was amazed by the design and by how spacious the restaurant is. Dinner during Restaurant Week is $38 per person, which at Raymi includes a small plate, a large plate, and dessert.
I went for dinner with an old teacher and a classmate. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and even offered advice about a few dishes since none of us had ever eaten Peruvian food before. For the small plate, we ordered causa, jalea, and ceviche clasico.
The causa has cold potato puree, aji amarillo, salmon, octopus, avocado, and spicy mayo.
Jalea has shrimp, squid, corvina, yucca, salsa criolla, and aji Amarillo tartar sauce.
Ceviche clasico has corvina, lime, red onion, sweet potato, and cilantro habanero.
For the large plates, we ordered carapulcra, salmon, and arroz chaufa.
Carapulcra has roasted pork belly, Andean style potatoes, roasted peanuts, and salsa criolla.
The salmon has tacu tacu, rocoto crema, cipollini onions, cherry tomatoes, and a fried banana.
The arroz chaufa has jasmine rice, an egg, broccoli, ginger, char siu chicken, shrimp, Chinese sausage, scallions, and peanuts.
For drinks, we had pisco punch and passion fruit pisco sours.
For dessert, we had helado (ice cream). The flavors were lucuma with quinoa brownie and chica morada with pisco pineapple.

Overall, Raymi was an amazing experience and I truly recommend it to all. The manager, Giovanny Campos, was an excellent host and the servers were very professional.
*Note: the photos were taken with a cell phone and do not truly capture how alluring the food is.
