Flatiron hummus lovers – tomorrow will see the grand opening of Verts Mediterranean Grill’s first NYC site at 23rd Street and Madison – 24 E. 23rd Street, to be exact. Verts runs several establishments in Austin, Houston, Dallas and San Antonio, Texas and is taking their show on the road to the Big Apple, with their first store in Flatiron/Chelsea. Verts had a tent and their staff out in force on Thursday morning giving out free hummus and chips samples, as well as menus and special “coins” redeemable for a free entree tomorrow at their opening between the hours of 11 AM and 9 PM! With meals starting at $7.45, the menu includes lots of Middle-Eastern-style fare including a create-your-own meal approach including hummus, chicken, beef, pita, falafel, lamb, rice and all the rest in lots of great mash-ups – get a bowl, pita, or salad in any combination. It would appear they have as many as a dozen veggies to choose from, to say nothing of multiple toppings. Check it out tomorrow – we’ll be reporting after sampling lunch on opening day. Their motto is “Mother Nature is our Prep Cook.”
Follow Up! I had a chance to stop by today, and the lines were around the block! It seems that Vert’s has a dedicated following already, whether from their mid-west Fans, or because of the one free Entree being offered! Hope to try a dish myself later today, or at worst later this weekend when (hopefully!) the lines subside!
