A new art exhibit has appeared in the heart of the Flatiron District. Starting on May 20th and running through the end of August, the Artspace in the Flatiron Prow is displaying the work of artist Heidi Lanino in an exhibit entitled Folded Females. Heidi was born in New York and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Pratt Institute. She formerly worked as an art director for L’Oréal and has had her work exhibited in such places as the A.I.R Gallery, the Aljira Center for Contemporary Art, and the Albert Wisner Library Sculpture Park. The works displayed in the Folded Females exhibit are made from either paper or sheets of metal that have been folded into the female form. The folds are intended to represent strength as well as vulnerability. Lanino’s intent is to challenge viewers with questions regarding accepted ideals of beauty as well as the way that individuals fold and unfold in response to life experiences.  The exhibit is at the Flatiron Artspace at the very tip of the historic Flatiron Building, just one block from the New York City Seminar and Conference Center and is completely open to the public.
