Los Habaneros Performs Wednesday Evening!
Last Wednesday I attended a concert at Madison Square Park as part of the Madison Square Park Conservancy’s free summer concert series. This week’s performers were Los Habaneros, a local well-known Cuban band. According to front man Geraldo Contino, the band, whose style he refers to as neo-contemporary Cuban, has been performing together for five years now. The audience for the show numbered over 100 people and was made up of all age groups, from young mothers and their children to older couples.
Los Habaneros in Mad Square Park!
Once the show started a bit after 6 pm, the crowd was immediately enlivened by the energetic Latin sound. I saw couples young and old dancing as well as grandparents dancing with their grandchildren.
The Madison Square Park Conservancy will hold a free concert every Wednesday until August 15th. Upcoming acts include the Spitfire Family Reunion and Maku Soundsystem. The Madison Square Park Conservancy is funded by a number of local business like Eataly and NYCulture. The concerts will be held rain or shine in Madison Square Park, just one block from the New York Seminar and Conference Center. The shows start at 6:00 pm and run until 8:00 pm. Here’s a quick video clip of the show for those who may have missed it!
