I had a chance to sample one of the ever-expanding choices for fast-casual dining that have made Flatiron a true foodie mecca for all who live and work here! Located on 23rd Street between Madison and 5th, Skewr offers a healthy and delicious Persian take on kebab for just under $15. I stopped by at lunch to sample the wares, choosing a delicious
white-meat chicken kebab with an assortment of sides and salads – you can also choose beef, salmon, dark-meat chicken, and lamb. I chose not one, but two different hummus varieties (plain and spicy); a delicious tomato and cucumber salad, as well as a sweet honey-basted sweet potato alongside roasted broccoli, all laid out over saffron yellow rice. Along with these items, served in a bowl, I also got a freshly baked flat bread with which to sample my dishes. It was cooked fresh for me while I waited; I could ask for no more! I was in and out in 20 minutes. With the loss of my former Middle Eastern favorite Vert’s/Noon down the street, I greatly appreciate this newest Middle Eastern establishment offering similar, but different, regional fare! I can heartily recommend this, and it is a worthy addition to our ever-growing 23rd Street corridor, right alongside McDonald’s, Arby’s, Fields Good Chicken, and Zucker’s Bagels!

New Neighbor: Skewr Kabob Kitchen
The Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership is happy to welcome Skewr to 23rd Street! The goal of Skewr Kabob Kitchen is to be synonymous with freshly-made, affordable food. The menu features chicken, beef, salmon and tofu kabobs grilled per order, as well as homemade lemonades and iced teas.
“We are proud to open our first store in the Flatiron District and to introduce the traditional Persian cuisine as a fast-casual concept to everyone. We chose our location carefully — we love the neighborhood’s great diversity, but also the strong sense of community,” says General Manager Tihomir Stoykov. “The Flatiron District is considered by many as a true foodie haven, so we felt that our philosophy of bringing only the best and the freshest will flourish here. As the owner loves to say ‘We are the home of the homemade everything’.”
The food at Skewr is prepared fresh daily before the doors open each morning, and their bread is baked on-site.
Skewr is open for lunch and dinner from 11 am to 9:30 pm daily.
