Taim is a New Vegetarian Eatery in Flatiron/Chelsea

Taim is a New Vegetarian Eatery in Flatiron/Chelsea

Reported for the Flatiron Hot! News by Tod Shapiro

I admit it – I love Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and Israeli cuisine, and am always on the lookout for a new fast-casual sit-down lunch opportunity not far from the Flatiron Hot! News offices at NYC Seminar and Conference Center.  We just welcomed Skewer (Persian) and Memo Shish Kebab (Turkish) to our neighborhood, but now our cup truly runneth over – we have the opening of “Taim” (that’s Hebrew for “tasty” or “delicious”).  NYC Seminar and Conference Center patrons now have another great choice less than a block away from our 23rd Street location to enjoy fantastic Middle Eastern food on a break from their events at the Conference Center!

Open for Business – with a phone app to boot!

I passed the new storefront at 64 West 22nd Street, just off Sixth Avenue (just past Best Buy and across from Trader Joe’s) and saw their extremely appealing new sign, which featured a chick pea – totally appropriate!  I took a quick peek inside, and noticed a list of menu items including green and harrissa falafel, sabich, as well as cauliflower shawarma – I had to double check, because my concept of Israeli food assumes beef, chicken and lamb alongside the hummus and falafel.  Not so here!  They pride themselves on being entirely vegetarian and virtually gluten-free. I struck up a conversation with Delmi Perdomo, the site GM, who quickly related to me that Taim – one of 5 sites operating in NYC, but the first in our home Chelsea/Flatiron neighborhood – prided themselves on appealing to the health-conscious and vegan diners.  They offer pitas, platters, and salads with the full array of Middle Eastern delights.  For those of you who need an introduction to the world of Middle Eastern food, check out their handy “Menu and Glossary” for that purpose.  Prices for a lunch entree range from $8.50 for a pita, to $12.50 for a platter, and $10.95 for a salad – well within the affordable range offered by the many fast-casual places in our neighborhood!

I sent one of my staff over immediately to bring back a sandwich for our examination. We quickly consumed our falafel pita, and both of us agreed this was falafel of extremely high quality, and can heartily recommend it.  So, check it out when you have a chance on your lunch hour – next on my list is the shawarma and sabich!
