Editor’s Note:  Again, thanks to our Friends at the Flatiron 23rd Street Partnership for providing information about various wonderful local events for our blog’s readers.

Celebrate women winning the right to vote at two great events as part of Monumental Women’s countdown to the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment!

Join Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and Monumental Women this Friday, February 14th at 11:30 AM in Madison Square Park to say happy early 200th birthday to Susan B. Anthony. The women’s suffrage leader, abolitionist, author and New Yorker was born on February 15, 1820, and Borough President Brewer will issue a proclamation declaring it “Susan B. Anthony Day.”

The event on February 14th will celebrate the life and accomplishments of the pioneering feminist and civil rights activist. Later this year, Anthony, along with the suffragists and abolitionists Sojourner Truth and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, will be immortalized in the Women’s Rights Pioneers Monument, to be unveiled in Central Park on August 26th, the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, when women won the right to vote. The statue is the work of the all-volunteer nonprofit Monumental Women and will be the first to depict real, nonfictional women in Central Park.

The event will take place in the southwest corner of the park, near the corner of Broadway and 23rd Street.
